The Echo Base is equipped with a Toyota 1.5 liter four-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The engine is mated to a Toyota 4-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Toyota.

The Echo uses power-assisted brakes, with Non-ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The Echo is 163.20 inches long, 65.40 inches wide, and 59.40 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 93.30 inches. It is able to seat 5 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the Echo is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty also includes a warranty on the drivetrain for 60 months or 60,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the sedan market. Extended warranties are also available through the dealer.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $10,585 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $9,948. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Sedan.

Fuel Efficiency

For the 2002 Echo, the fuel delivery system is a electronic SFI, using gasoline for fuel. A fuel-injected MFI configuration. The gas tank holds 11.90 gallons.

The Echo Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of 32 - 34 in-city driving and 38 - 41 when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was subpar.
